In a key administrative decision ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed K Manivasan as the new Home Secretary of Tamil Nadu.

K Manivasan, a 1993-batch IAS officer, was previously serving as Additional Chief Secretary in the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. He now takes over a crucial role that plays a key part in maintaining law and order during the election period.
As part of the same order, the ECI has transferred Dheeraj Kumar, also a 1993-batch IAS officer, from the post of Home Secretary. The Commission has further directed that he should not be assigned any election-related responsibilities until the completion of the Assembly elections.
Such decisions are typically taken by the Election Commission to ensure neutrality and smooth conduct of elections. The Home Secretary’s role is especially critical during this time, as it involves overseeing security arrangements, coordination with law enforcement agencies, and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
