Election Commission of India (ECI)

In a fresh administrative reshuffle ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has transferred more than one-and-half-a-dozen IPS officers in the state to ensure fair and neutral policing during the poll process.

This latest move comes after earlier changes involving the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Additional Secretary (Home), Kolkata Police Commissioner, and several other senior officers in West Bengal. With elections drawing closer, the Election Commission appears to be tightening administrative control to ensure that law and order arrangements remain impartial and effective.

According to the order, the officers who have been transferred out will not be posted in any election-related assignments until the completion of the elections. This is in line with the Election Commission’s standard practice of keeping election management free from any perception of bias.

The reshuffle covers key senior positions across the state, including police commissioners, regional heads, and district superintendents of police. Several officers have now been assigned to important zones, commissionerates, and police districts that are likely to play a major role during the election period.

The names and new assignments of the officers are as follows:

District SPs, police commissioners, and regional heads play a direct role in maintaining peace, overseeing force deployment, and ensuring that election guidelines are enforced properly.

For West Bengal, where elections are often closely watched from an administrative and security perspective, these transfers are significant. They are likely to shape how policing is handled on the ground in the coming weeks.
