Fertiliser Subsidy

The Central government has launched a new integrated e-bill system to digitise the processing of fertiliser subsidies, marking a major step towards improving transparency and efficiency in one of the country’s largest public spending programmes.

The digital platform will replace the existing paper-based workflow used to handle fertiliser subsidy claims, which involve transactions worth nearly ₹2 lakh crore annually. Officials said the move will significantly reduce manual paperwork, shorten processing time and minimise errors in subsidy settlements.

Under the new system, fertiliser companies will be able to submit claims electronically, while government departments can track approvals, fund releases and audit trails in real time. The platform is designed to bring greater accountability to subsidy disbursement and enable faster decision-making.

The fertiliser subsidy programme supports the availability of affordable inputs to farmers across the country. By digitising the billing and approval mechanism, authorities aim to improve service delivery and ensure that public funds are utilised efficiently.

An official associated with the rollout said, “The e-bill system will streamline subsidy processing and make the entire workflow more transparent and traceable.”

With the platform now operational, fertiliser companies are expected to begin migrating to the digital process in phases. The government plans to gradually phase out manual billing systems as departments and stakeholders adopt the new digital framework.
