Expatriate Rajasthan Day

Union Power Minister Manohar Lal expressed confidence that a legal resolution on expanding transmission lines in western Rajasthan—amid ecological concerns over the Great Indian Bustard—will be finalised soon. He confirmed that the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has approved the Green Energy Corridor-III, paving the way for accelerated renewable energy evacuation. A 115 GW transmission network under the central system is now being developed in Rajasthan, signalling that the country’s future energy superhighway will run through the state.

Speaking at a special session on Battery Energy Storage during Expatriate Rajasthan Day at JECC on Wednesday, the minister lauded the state government’s initiatives in strengthening the solar energy ecosystem and pushing large-scale clean energy deployment.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said Rajasthan is now a frontrunner on both the national and global renewable energy map, holding the top position in solar and total renewable energy capacity. He noted that the knowledge, capital and global networks of Non-Resident Rajasthanis are playing a pivotal role in this transformation.

Reiterating the state’s commitment to energy self-reliance, Sharma said Rajasthan aims to evolve from an energy-importing to an energy-supplying state. The government has allotted 23,386 hectares of land for renewable projects and parks, enabling the development of nearly 10,202 MW. In addition, 51,808 hectares have been allocated to the Renewable Energy Corporation and Power Generation Corporation for large solar parks with a planned capacity of 26,784 MW—laying the groundwork for gigawatt-scale expansion.

Clearances have also been issued for 964 MW of solar captive plants and 1,514 MW of solar projects for industrial and large consumers, ensuring clean, cost-effective and long-term energy availability.

Highlighting central support, the Chief Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PM-KUSUM scheme has empowered farmers by enabling them to become both food and energy providers. Rajasthan, he said, has emerged as a model state, issuing work orders for 5,002 solar projects totalling 10,533 MW under Components A and C. Of these, 1,019 projects with 2,272 MW capacity have already been commissioned, placing Rajasthan first in the country under Component A.

Food Minister Sumit Godara said solar projects have transformed livelihoods in western Rajasthan, while Minister of State for Energy (Independent Charge) Hiralal Nagar said work on a 6,000 MW battery energy storage system is progressing rapidly to meet peak-hour demand.

The event was attended by Revenue Minister Hemant Meena, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, Energy Department Principal Secretary Ajitabh Sharma, and representatives from energy institutions and state power corporations.
