Industries Minister P. Rajeeve is set to inaugurate a fleet of 15 fully air-conditioned electric feeder buses, introduced by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL), to enhance first and last-mile connectivity for Kochi Metro commuters. The launch ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on January 15 at the Kalamassery bus stand near the Medical College.

These electric buses, branded as ‘Metro Connect,’ offer modern amenities comparable to those available in Kochi Metro trains, including USB charging ports for mobile devices. The buses aim to provide a seamless and comfortable travel experience for passengers.

The fleet comprises 33-seater buses that will initially operate on five designated routes: Aluva-Airport, Kalamassery-Medical College, High Court-M.G. Road circular, Kadavanthra-K.P. Vallon Road circular, Kakkanad Water Metro-Infopark, and Kinfrapark-Collectorate. Ticket pricing has been structured to ensure affordability. For instance, a journey between Aluva and the airport, covering approximately 12 kilometres, will cost ₹80, while a 5-kilometre trip on other routes will be priced at ₹20.

Starting January 16, the regular feeder bus services will be available on the Aluva-Airport and Kalamassery-Medical College routes. Services on the remaining routes will be rolled out in phases, ensuring smooth integration into the city’s transport network.

The initiative reflects KMRL’s commitment to sustainable and efficient urban mobility solutions. The electric feeder buses, powered by environmentally friendly technology, align with the broader vision of reducing the city’s carbon footprint while improving public transport accessibility.
