Their responsibilities are expected to include coordination with government departments, municipal bodies and other agencies involved in urban development projects.

They will also support district administrations in monitoring development schemes, tracking infrastructure and civic works and addressing coordination-related issues.

Focus on Urban Development

The deployment comes at a time when urban infrastructure, civic services and timely execution of development projects remain important areas for district administrations.

By assigning young IAS officers specifically to Urban Affairs, the government has added dedicated administrative support for work involving urban local bodies and development programmes.

The new postings will give the 2024-batch officers an opportunity to gain further practical experience in district administration after completing their Phase-II training.

Working directly with Deputy Commissioners will allow them to understand ground-level implementation, inter-departmental coordination and the functioning of urban governance systems.
