Punjab Govt Transfers 4 IAS Officers; Sakshi Sawhney Gets Additional Sports Charge

The Punjab Government has ordered the transfer and posting of four IAS officers, assigning new responsibilities across key areas including transport, sports, health, municipal administration and general administration.

The latest reshuffle mainly involves additional charges for serving officers, along with a change in the posting of an officer handling the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation.

Varun Roojam Gets Additional Sports Charge

Varun Roojam (IAS: 2004, Punjab), currently serving as Administrative Secretary, Transport, has been given the additional charge of Administrative Secretary, Sports & Youth Services.


He will continue to look after his existing Transport responsibilities along with the newly assigned portfolio.

Sakshi Sawhney Given Director, Sports & Youth Services Charge

Sakshi Sawhney (IAS: 2014, Punjab) has also been entrusted with an additional responsibility in the Sports & Youth Services Department.

She is currently serving as Special Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, while also holding charge as Mission Director, National Health Mission, Punjab, and Nodal Officer, Anti-Drug Campaign.

She has now been given the additional charge of Director, Sports & Youth Services.

Sandeep Rishi Gets Jalandhar Municipal Corporation Charge

Sandeep Rishi (IAS: 2015, Punjab) will continue as Chief Administrator, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), SAS Nagar.

Alongside his existing assignment, he has been entrusted with the additional charge of Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar.

He will therefore oversee responsibilities related to both the Greater Mohali area development authority and Jalandhar’s civic administration.

Nikas Kumar Shifted to General Administration

Nikas Kumar (IAS: 2020, Punjab), who was serving as Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar, has been transferred to the General Administration & Coordination Department.

He has been appointed as Additional Secretary, General Administration & Coordination, relinquishing his charge as Commissioner of the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation.

With the latest changes, the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation will now come under the additional charge of Sandeep Rishi.

Reshuffle Across Key Administrative Areas

The latest orders bring changes in responsibilities across several important areas of Punjab’s administration. The additional assignments are expected to ensure continuity in departmental functioning while allowing experienced officers to oversee multiple governance responsibilities.

The reshuffle also strengthens administrative oversight of sports and youth services, municipal administration and general governance in the state.
