ONGC Appoints Dr Archna Thakur as Independent Director

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has appointed Dr Archna Thakur as a Non-Official Independent Director on its Board.

The appointment follows a letter dated August 12, 2026, issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India. ONGC’s Board approved her appointment as Additional Director (Independent Director) with effect from August 13, 2026.

Three-Year Tenure

Dr Archna Thakur has been appointed for a period of three years from August 12, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.


Her Director Identification Number (DIN) is 11719170.

As an Independent Director, she will contribute to the company’s Board-level deliberations and governance processes.

Strong Academic Background

Dr Archna Thakur holds a Doctorate in International Politics from Himachal Pradesh University. She is also a Gold Medalist in Master’s in Political Science.

She brings more than 20 years of experience across academics, management, administration and social services.

Diverse Professional Experience

Over the course of her career, Dr Thakur has held several positions across education, media, rural development and social sectors.

Her previous assignments include:

  • Principal, Vocational Training Institute under the Department of Technical Education (Polytechnic)
  • Head of the Department of Social Science, an international school
  • Marketing Director, electronic media houses in Himachal Pradesh
  • Consultant, National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Himachal Pradesh

Her varied professional experience spans institutional management, education, communication and rural development.

Work in Social Development

Dr Archna Thakur has also been associated with several non-governmental organisations working on women’s empowerment, social awareness, community welfare and social development.

Her experience in these areas adds a social-sector perspective to her professional profile as she takes up the new Board-level responsibility at ONGC.

The appointment adds an experienced professional with a background spanning academics, administration and social services to ONGC’s Board.
