Former Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Chairman Amarendu Prakash has joined Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking a significant leadership transition at one of India’s leading metals and mining companies.

Prakash assumed charge on Thursday and succeeds Arun Misra, who recently moved to a larger role as Group Chief Executive Officer of Vedanta Limited.

The appointment brings to Hindustan Zinc a seasoned industry leader with extensive experience in the steel and metals sector, having spent decades in leadership and operational roles across India’s public sector industrial ecosystem.

Amarendu Prakash is widely recognised for his contributions to India’s steel sector. He took over as Chairman of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) on May 31, 2023, after serving the organisation in several senior leadership positions over the years.

During his tenure, he was associated with efforts aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening production capabilities and enhancing the competitiveness of one of India’s largest steel producers.

Earlier this year, Prakash resigned from his position at SAIL ahead of his scheduled superannuation, with his resignation taking effect from April 1, 2026.
