APSEZ, Kaleris

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has expanded its strategic partnership with US-based technology company Kaleris to strengthen artificial intelligence-driven operations across its ports and logistics network. The move forms part of APSEZ’s long-term growth strategy aimed at enhancing efficiency, modernising infrastructure and achieving its ambitious target of handling one billion tonnes of cargo annually by 2030.

The expanded collaboration will introduce advanced digital and AI-powered solutions across APSEZ’s container terminals, helping improve operational performance, optimise resources and provide greater visibility throughout the logistics chain.

AI and Automation to Drive Next Phase of Growth

Under the multi-year agreement, Kaleris will deploy its advanced terminal operating and optimisation technologies across 15 APSEZ container terminals located at nine ports in India and overseas.

The initiative builds on the success of the first phase, where digital solutions were implemented at six ports. The next phase will extend planning, automation and operational capabilities across the wider APSEZ network, creating a more integrated and data-driven transport ecosystem.

The company expects the technology deployment to improve productivity, streamline cargo movement and support faster decision-making across its operations.

Focus on Efficiency and Operational Excellence

According to APSEZ, the advanced optimisation platform is expected to deliver measurable improvements in port operations.

The company estimates that the deployment could increase Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) crane productivity by up to 20 per cent while improving terminal truck productivity by up to 14 per cent.

These gains are expected to help reduce turnaround times, improve cargo handling efficiency and strengthen overall customer service across the network.

Digital Backbone for Future Logistics

The partnership will expand Kaleris’ N4 Terminal Operating System across APSEZ facilities, enabling better yard management, enhanced vessel planning and more predictable cargo movement.

As global trade volumes continue to rise and supply chains become increasingly complex, APSEZ is investing heavily in technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), computer vision and advanced analytics to support smarter operations.

The objective is to create a unified digital platform that offers real-time visibility and seamless coordination across ports, rail networks, warehouses, trucking operations and logistics hubs.

Supporting APSEZ’s 2030 Vision

The expanded partnership aligns with APSEZ’s broader 2030 strategy, which includes significant investments in technology, sustainability and infrastructure development.

The company has outlined plans involving an investment of approximately US$850 million towards decarbonisation initiatives, digital transformation and operational upgrades.

These efforts are aimed at strengthening APSEZ’s position as India’s leading integrated transport and logistics operator while supporting future cargo growth.

Leadership on AI-Enabled Transformation

Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and Chief Executive Officer of APSEZ, said artificial intelligence and automation would play a decisive role in shaping the future of ports and logistics.

He noted that APSEZ has already established an end-to-end digital platform that provides tracking, visibility and integrated operational control across its logistics network. The deeper integration with Kaleris is expected to further improve efficiency, turnaround times and customer experience.

Kirk Knauff, President and CEO of Kaleris, said the expanded deployment reflects the success of the existing collaboration and demonstrates how AI-enabled technologies can transform large-scale port operations.

Building a Technology-Led Logistics Network

APSEZ’s journey towards handling one billion tonnes of cargo annually by 2030 reflects the rapid expansion of its integrated logistics ecosystem.

Over the years, the company has steadily strengthened its interconnected network of ports, rail services, road transportation, warehouses and cargo gateways. The latest technology investments are expected to support this growth while ensuring higher operational efficiency and scalability.

As India’s trade and logistics sector continues to evolve, APSEZ’s focus on digital innovation is likely to play a key role in building a more resilient, efficient and future-ready supply chain infrastructure.
