India’s premier aerospace and defence PSU, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), has appointed Kota Ravi as its Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), effective May 1, 2026. The appointment has been approved by the Ministry of Defence and disclosed through regulatory filings to stock exchanges.

Kota Ravi, who earlier served as Director (Operations), will lead the organisation until his superannuation on June 30, 2029, or until further government orders.

Leadership Transition at a Crucial Time

The appointment comes at a time when HAL is expanding its global footprint and playing a key role in India’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The company stated that Ravi meets all regulatory requirements and holds a clean record for board-level leadership.

A Veteran with Deep Industry Experience

With over 30 years of experience in aerospace, manufacturing, and electronics, Kota Ravi has been closely associated with HAL’s operational and strategic growth.

An engineering graduate from Malnad College of Engineering, he has also studied at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and IAS Toulouse, bringing a strong blend of technical expertise and management insight.

  • Driving innovation and adoption of emerging technologies like AI
  • Improving operational efficiency and productivity
  • Expanding exports and global collaborations
  • Strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem

Industry Outlook

The leadership change comes amid rising defence spending and strong policy support for “Atmanirbhar Bharat” in aerospace. Analysts expect continuity in HAL’s strategy, along with faster expansion into global markets.

The Road Ahead

Kota Ravi’s appointment signals a balanced approach of continuity and forward-looking leadership. With his deep operational experience and proven track record, HAL is expected to further strengthen its position as a key player in India’s defence and aerospace ambitions.
