PESB Recommends Kota Ravi as CMD of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited

In a significant leadership development for India’s defence and aerospace sector, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Shri Kota Ravi for the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a Schedule ‘A’ Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence.

The recommendation was made during PESB Meeting No. 8/2026, held on Wednesday morning, and was recorded under Minute No. 1. Shri Ravi, who is currently serving as Director (Operations) at HAL, emerged as the top choice after an extensive selection process.

Strong Internal Leadership Pick

Shri Kota Ravi was shortlisted from a pool of senior and experienced candidates from HAL and other leading public sector and technology organisations. Those interviewed for the coveted post included:

  • Shri P B Rangarao, Chief Executive Officer – Helicopter Complex, HAL

  • Shri Shishir Kumar Patra, Executive Director (AMD), HAL, Nasik

  • Shri Bankim Kumar Pradhan, Executive Director (Finance), Bangalore Complex, HAL

  • Shri Jasbir Singh, Executive Director, HAL Rotary Wing Research and Design Centre, Bengaluru

  • Shri Shrirang Anilrao Kothe, Executive Director (Koraput), HAL

  • Shri R Venu Gopal, Senior General Manager, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL)

  • Shri Magesh, Director General, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)

The selection of an internal leader is being seen as a vote of confidence in HAL’s existing management depth and continuity.

Experience Aligned with HAL’s Growth Phase

With decades of hands-on experience in aviation operations, manufacturing, and programme management, Shri Kota Ravi is widely regarded as a seasoned professional within HAL. His elevation comes at a critical phase when the company is expanding its footprint across fighter aircraft, helicopters, engines, UAVs, and advanced defence platforms.

Industry observers believe his operational background will help HAL strengthen execution capabilities, meet delivery timelines, and push forward indigenous defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Steering HAL into the Next Decade

HAL is currently at the centre of India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, playing a pivotal role in projects related to fighter jets, rotorcraft, trainer aircraft, and next-generation aerospace systems. Leadership continuity, coupled with operational expertise, is expected to be key as the company scales up production and deepens its R&D focus.
