In a major step towards modernising highway infrastructure, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has launched India’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) barrier-less tolling system in Gujarat.
The system has been introduced at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat–Bharuch stretch of NH-48, allowing vehicles to pass through toll points without stopping.
Seamless Tolling with Advanced Technology
The MLFF system uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and FASTag technology to automatically detect and deduct toll charges. This eliminates the need for physical barriers, enabling uninterrupted vehicle movement.
Faster Travel, Lower Emissions
The new tolling system is expected to bring multiple benefits:
- Reduced travel time on highways
- Lower fuel consumption
- Decreased traffic congestion
- Reduction in vehicle emissions
By removing stoppages at toll plazas, the system aims to make highway travel smoother and more efficient.
Boost to Logistics and Economy
Speaking at the launch, Nitin Gadkari said the initiative will enhance the “Ease of Living” for citizens and improve the “Ease of Doing Business” by ensuring faster movement of goods and logistics across the country.
Step Towards Digital Highways
The barrier-less tolling system marks a significant milestone in India’s push towards technology-driven infrastructure. It reflects the government’s broader vision of building smart, efficient, and future-ready national highways under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
