India’s trade partnership with the United Arab Emirates has gained strong momentum under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with Union Minister Piyush Goyal highlighting its growing impact on businesses, farmers, and exporters.
Trade Crosses $100 Billion Mark
Four years after the agreement came into force, bilateral merchandise trade between India and the UAE has crossed $100 billion, reflecting a significant expansion in economic ties. Services trade has also seen steady growth, helping Indian companies access new markets and enhance value creation.
Boost for MSMEs, Farmers and Key Sectors
According to Piyush Goyal, the CEPA has created “transformational opportunities” across sectors. Industries such as:
- Gems and jewellery
- Engineering goods
- Electronics
- Agriculture
have witnessed strong growth, benefiting exporters and entrepreneurs across the country.
Rising Investment and Economic Collaboration
The agreement has also encouraged increased investment flows. Rising foreign direct investment (FDI) from the UAE, along with growing overseas investments by Indian companies, signals deeper economic collaboration between the two nations.
Strengthening India’s Global Trade Position
Officials say the CEPA is playing a key role in strengthening India’s position in global trade by improving market access and reducing barriers for Indian products and services.

Expanding Global Partnerships
In addition to India-UAE cooperation, Piyush Goyal also held discussions with UK Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle to further boost bilateral trade and explore opportunities under the proposed India-UK trade agreement.
With strong trade growth, rising investments, and expanding sectoral opportunities, the India-UAE CEPA is emerging as a cornerstone of India’s global economic strategy.
