Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh AI & Health Innovation Conference 2026, held on 12–13 January 2026 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, brought together policymakers, healthcare leaders, technology experts, startups, and industry stakeholders to discuss the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare. During the inaugural session, Shri Abhishek Singh, IAS, Director General, National Informatics Centre and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, highlighted the growing role of AI in addressing healthcare challenges and enabling scalable digital solutions.

Addressing the gathering, Abhishek Singh emphasised that AI is increasingly emerging as a powerful tool for strengthening healthcare systems by improving accessibility, accelerating diagnosis, and supporting quality medical services. He noted that access to specialist healthcare, timely diagnosis, and equitable healthcare delivery continue to remain major challenges, particularly across large and diverse populations.

Speaking on the practical applications of AI in healthcare, he highlighted how emerging technologies are being used to support disease diagnosis and improve healthcare efficiency. AI-enabled tools, he said, have demonstrated significant potential in areas such as diagnostic imaging, disease detection, and automated screening systems, helping healthcare providers improve accuracy and expand reach.

He further noted that AI technologies can help bridge healthcare delivery gaps, particularly in regions where access to specialised medical expertise remains limited. Intelligent systems capable of supporting diagnostic processes can strengthen service delivery and improve outcomes in resource-constrained environments.

Discussions at the conference also focused on identifying scalable AI solutions that can be integrated across healthcare systems. Participants explored strategies for developing frameworks that enable wider adoption of successful AI applications and support their implementation at scale.

Highlighting India’s growing role in the global AI ecosystem, Singh noted that the country has steadily strengthened its capabilities across technology, innovation, and digital public infrastructure. He emphasised the importance of building frameworks for responsible AI adoption, strengthening startup ecosystems, and investing in future-ready skills and innovation.

He also underlined the significance of collaboration among central ministries, state governments, healthcare institutions, and technology organisations in enabling large-scale deployment of AI solutions. Strong partnerships, he noted, are essential for developing impactful and sustainable healthcare innovations.
