In a significant leadership transition, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has appointed Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), effective April 1, 2026.

The appointment was approved by the company’s Board following an order from the Ministry of Power dated March 18, 2026. Vamsi Rama Mohan has taken charge with immediate effect and will serve in this role until July 31, 2030, or until further orders.

A familiar name within POWERGRID, Vamsi’s elevation comes after decades of dedicated service to the organisation. Prior to this role, he served as Director (Projects), where he played a crucial part in driving large-scale infrastructure development and execution. His appointment reflects the company’s trust in internal leadership and continuity.

With over 33 years of experience in the power transmission and telecom sectors, Vamsi brings a deep understanding of both technical and strategic aspects of the industry. An engineering graduate with additional qualifications in planning and project management, he has worked across key areas including projects, procurement, regulatory affairs, asset management, and telecom.

Colleagues often regard him as a hands-on leader who understands the pulse of the sector. He was among the founding members of POWERGRID’s Regulatory Cell and contributed significantly to the company’s transition into competitive bidding in the transmission space—an important milestone in India’s power sector reforms.

His leadership in the telecom space also stands out. As CEO of Powergrid Teleservices Limited, he led the expansion of the company’s telecom business and initiated its first data centre project, reflecting a forward-looking approach toward digital infrastructure.

During his tenure as Director (Projects), POWERGRID achieved record capitalisation and capital expenditure milestones, underlining his strong execution capabilities and project management expertise.

This appointment comes at a time when POWERGRID is focusing on expanding its infrastructure footprint, strengthening digital capabilities, and supporting India’s growing energy needs.
