In a step towards promoting clean energy at one of India’s most visited religious sites, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to install a 1.7 MW rooftop solar power system at the Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST) in Shirdi.

The project, estimated at around ₹4.45 crore, aims to reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions while improving energy efficiency at the temple complex, which receives lakhs of devotees every year.

The agreement was signed between Bina Mansukh, CEO of BPCL Foundation, and Goraksha Gadilkar, CEO of SSST, in the presence of Member of Parliament Bhausaheb Wakchaure and senior officials from both organisations.

Once completed within the planned 15-month timeline, the solar installation will generate a significant amount of renewable energy, reducing dependence on conventional power sources. The project will also contribute to a cleaner environment by cutting down carbon emissions.

Beyond environmental benefits, the initiative is expected to enhance services for over 10 lakh devotees annually who use subsidised accommodation facilities at Shirdi. Improved energy efficiency will help streamline operations and support sustainable infrastructure at the pilgrimage centre.

The collaboration reflects a growing trend of integrating green energy solutions into public and religious spaces. For BPCL, it also aligns with its broader strategy of expanding into renewable energy and supporting community-focused sustainability initiatives.

As India continues to push for cleaner energy adoption, projects like this highlight how sustainability can be seamlessly integrated into everyday spaces—benefiting both people and the environment.
