In a significant leadership appointment, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has named Anant Swarup as its new Secretary General.
A 1992-batch Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) officer, Swarup brings with him over three decades of experience in public policy, trade, logistics, and regulatory affairs. His appointment is expected to further strengthen FICCI’s leadership at a time when industry-government collaboration is becoming increasingly important.
Before taking on this role, Swarup served as Director General of Trade Remedies in the Government of India. Over the years, he has held several key positions, including Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Executive Director to the Union Minister of Railways, and First Secretary representing India at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva.
His diverse experience across government and international platforms has given him deep insight into trade negotiations, economic policy, and regulatory frameworks—areas that are central to FICCI’s work in representing industry interests.
Academically, Swarup holds degrees in MBA, LLB, and MSc, along with a Master’s Certificate in Sustainable Infrastructure and Finance, reflecting his strong grounding in both policy and business domains.
With his appointment, FICCI aims to further strengthen its role as a bridge between industry and policymakers, supporting economic growth and business development in India. Meanwhile, Jyoti Vij will continue to serve as Director General, ensuring continuity in the organisation’s leadership.
Swarup’s entry into FICCI leadership comes at a time when India is focusing on expanding global trade, strengthening domestic industries, and driving innovation—areas where his experience is expected to play a valuable role.
