Solar Pumps

In a strong push towards clean energy and farmer empowerment, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has directed officials to accelerate the adoption of solar pumps across the state, aiming to connect over 2 lakh farmers by the end of the current financial year.

Chairing a high-level review meeting of the New and Renewable Energy Department, the Chief Minister emphasised that farmers should not just be consumers of electricity but also become energy producers. The move is expected to reduce electricity costs, improve agricultural productivity, and increase rural incomes.

The government has set an ambitious target to expand solar pump installations rapidly. Officials have been asked to actively support farmers, provide guidance, and ensure that renewable energy schemes are implemented within strict timelines.

Under existing initiatives, the state has already made significant progress. Around 27,100 solar pumps have been installed under the KUSUM-B scheme, while a larger goal of solarising 4 lakh pumps over the next two years has been set. In addition, nearly 10 lakh farmers are being targeted for solar-based electrification under KUSUM-C, ensuring reliable daytime power supply.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of the PM Surya Ghar Rooftop Solar Scheme, urging faster implementation to benefit both households and urban local bodies. He suggested organising training programmes for municipal officials to promote rooftop solar adoption and waste-to-energy initiatives.

Looking ahead, the state is also working on a major 2 GW Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Park in Morena, in collaboration with Uttar Pradesh. The project is expected to further strengthen green energy capacity and support long-term sustainability goals.

So far, Madhya Pradesh has installed around 2.5 lakh solar pumps, reflecting its growing focus on renewable energy in agriculture. A detailed monthly execution plan has been put in place to ensure faster implementation and better coordination across departments.

The broader vision, as outlined by Mohan Yadav, is to make farmers energy self-reliant while contributing to the state’s clean energy transition.
