Bhubaneswar, April 19: Railway projects worth over ₹90,000 crore are currently under execution in Odisha, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday, highlighting a sharp expansion in network capacity and pace of infrastructure development in the state.

Speaking during his visit to Bhubaneswar, the Minister said the scale of ongoing investment reflects the Centre’s focus on strengthening both passenger and freight infrastructure. He also reviewed the redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station and stressed the need for timely completion and quality execution to enhance passenger experience.

Odisha has received a record railway budget allocation of ₹10,928 crore, significantly higher than previous years, which is enabling faster implementation of key projects. As part of the station modernisation drive, 59 railway stations in the state are being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with improved passenger amenities.

Vaishnaw said efforts are underway to bring all 30 districts of Odisha under rail connectivity, aimed at improving access to remote areas and supporting balanced regional development.

Among major projects, the proposed four-line coastal corridor from Balasore to Berhampur is expected to significantly enhance capacity along the coastal belt. The project is likely to ease congestion, improve mobility, and support economic activity in the region.

The Minister said the ongoing railway investments will strengthen connectivity, support economic growth, and further integrate Odisha with the national rail network.
