Electric Buses

The Delhi Government is set to roll out 500 new electric buses on city roads this Sunday, marking another significant step toward cleaner and more sustainable public transportation. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made the announcement while laying the foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 400 crore in Matiala constituency, West Delhi.

With the addition of these buses, Delhi’s electric bus fleet will expand to 4,000, reinforcing its position as the city with the highest number of electric buses in the country. The government has set an ambitious target of increasing the fleet to 11,000 electric buses by 2028, aiming to make green mobility accessible across every part of the national capital.

Focus on Rural and Underdeveloped Areas

Addressing residents in Matiala, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of inclusive development. She noted that rural areas, agrarian pockets, unauthorized colonies, and slum clusters must be prioritised if Delhi is to achieve holistic growth.

Matiala, one of the largest and most rural constituencies in Delhi, is expected to receive focused attention under the current development roadmap. Projects sanctioned for the constituency are aimed at strengthening infrastructure, upgrading roads, and enhancing public services to improve residents’ quality of life.

CM Gupta stated that the previous Delhi government had effectively paralysed the rural development board. She said the current administration has revived it and sanctioned projects worth Rs 1,700 crore to boost rural development. These projects cover education, healthcare, transportation, and local infrastructure, addressing long-standing civic challenges.

She also acknowledged the contributions of West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Matiala MLA Sandeep Sehrawat for actively supporting development initiatives in the region.

By expanding the e-bus fleet, the government aims to provide commuters with cleaner, quieter, and more efficient public transport options while contributing to improved air quality in the city.
