The Central Government has appointed Sudhansh Pant, a 1991-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, as Secretary in the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. Pant, who is currently serving as the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, will assume his new role on December 1, 2025, following the retirement of Amit Yadav (IAS: 1991: AGMUT) on November 30, 2025.
Pant’s appointment marks his return to the Centre after a successful tenure in the state’s top bureaucratic post, which he has held since January 1, 2024. Before his posting in Rajasthan, he held several key positions in the Union Government, including Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (2022–2023), and later as Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (2023). His extensive experience in infrastructure, health, and administrative reforms has been noted for contributing significantly to both central and state governance initiatives.

Known for his structured approach to governance and policy execution, Pant has played a crucial role in driving administrative reforms, digital integration, and inter-departmental coordination in Rajasthan. His move to the Centre is seen as part of the government’s broader strategy to bring experienced officers into key leadership positions in social welfare and empowerment domains.
Pant will continue in service until his scheduled retirement in February 2027. The Rajasthan Government is expected to soon announce its successor as Chief Secretary, marking another important transition in the state’s administrative leadership.
