PM Gatisakti

The government has opened the PM Gati Shakti portal to the private sector, aiming to optimise last-mile delivery services and enable the development of infrastructure-based applications. The query-based web platform provides regulated access to selected non-sensitive data sets from the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP), allowing private entities, consultants, researchers, and citizens to leverage advanced analytics for infrastructure planning and investment decisions.

Launched in October 2021, the PM Gati Shakti initiative focuses on integrated and planned development of critical infrastructure projects to reduce logistics costs. The ‘PM GatiShakti Public’ platform, launched through the Unified Geospatial Interface (UGI), is developed by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) and powered by the National Geospatial Data Registry (NGDR).

The platform provides access to 230 approved data sets covering physical and social infrastructure assets. Users can conduct site suitability analyses, connectivity mapping, alignment planning, compliance checks, and generate analytical reports based on pre-defined templates or user-defined criteria. Multi-layered geospatial data visualisation enables better project design, inter-agency coordination, and private sector participation.

Data layers include track lengths, railway stations, dedicated freight corridors, goods sheds, national and state highways, district layers, multi-modal logistics parks, warehouses, airports, land records, ports, forests, schools, water bodies, and telecom towers. Access is enabled through self-registration with robust authentication and data security protocols, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with policy norms.

Finance Ministry announcements had indicated that certain data and maps from the PM Gati Shakti portal would be made available to the private sector. The platform aims to support infrastructure-based apps, smart city solutions, tech-driven logistics management, and informed decision-making in healthcare, disaster management, agriculture, and food distribution.

In addition, a PM Gati Shakti Compendium highlighting successful use cases and best practices, the PMGS NMP Dashboard for multi-sector reporting, the Knowledge Management System (KMS) for cross-learning, and PM GatiShakti – Offshore for integrated offshore development were launched. The Data Uploading and Management System (DUMS) enables decentralised, real-time data ownership, and the PMGS District Master Plan supports 112 aspirational districts with data-driven local infrastructure development.

The Network Planning Group has evaluated over 300 major infrastructure projects under PM Gati Shakti principles, focusing on integrated planning, last-mile connectivity, intermodal linkages, enhanced logistics efficiency, and synchronised project implementation. The initiative is described as a vital bridge between macro-level planning and micro-level execution.
