The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has signed a five-year umbrella agreement with the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) to undertake advanced joint research and development aimed at further bolstering the robustness, security, and reliability of Aadhaar operations through cutting-edge, data-driven innovations.

The collaboration will focus on a range of priority areas, including fraud and anomaly detection, development of biometric liveness detection tools, identification of high-risk enrolment and update categories, and improvements in biometric matching algorithms. Additional focus areas will be identified and pursued jointly by UIDAI and ISI over the course of the agreement.

The agreement was signed by Tanusree Deb Barma, Deputy Director General (Technology Centre) at UIDAI, and Prof. B. S. Daya Sagar, Head of ISI’s Bengaluru Centre, in the presence of UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar and Puja Singh Mandol, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). “Our collaboration with Indian Statistical Institute is a step towards building advanced, secure, and citizen-centric innovation,” said Kumar. Mandol noted that the partnership brings together “deep expertise in the fields of statistics, technology, and data-driven innovation.”
