Gadkari Inaugurates ₹2460 Crore Worth of Road Projects in Jharkhand

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Thursday, inaugurated and laid foundation stones for significant road and bridge infrastructure projects in Garhwa and other parts of Jharkhand. These projects are set to enhance regional connectivity and accelerate economic development in the state.

During his visit to Garhwa, Gadkari inaugurated a newly constructed 23-kilometre four-lane road stretch from Shankha to Khajoori. This stretch, built at an investment of ₹1,130 crore, is a part of a larger infrastructure plan aimed at improving the National Highway network in the region. The new road is expected to streamline vehicular movement and reduce travel time, thereby benefiting commuters and supporting local trade and logistics.

In addition to the inauguration, the minister also laid the foundation stone for another crucial project—a 32-kilometre section of National Highway 39, which will be upgraded to four lanes. This project, estimated at ₹1,330 crore, will run from the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border to Gumla. It aims to enhance interstate connectivity and ensure safer, faster, and more efficient transportation between the two states.

Gadkari highlighted the significance of these developments while speaking to PTI. He noted that such road infrastructure projects are key drivers of socio-economic growth in remote and underdeveloped regions. These initiatives align with the central government’s commitment to building a robust and modern road network across the country.

“Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren informed me that he will not be able to attend today’s function as his father, Shibu Soren, is unwell and is undergoing treatment in Delhi,” Gadkari told PTI during the event.

According to officials cited by PTI, Gadkari also laid foundation stones for several bridge construction projects across Jharkhand. These upcoming bridges are strategically planned to ease transportation bottlenecks, particularly in rural and flood-prone areas where existing connectivity is often disrupted during monsoons. The projects are part of a broader effort to upgrade critical infrastructure and improve resilience against climatic and logistical challenges.

The developments come at a time when Jharkhand is witnessing an increased push from the central government for infrastructure-led development. The newly announced projects will not only improve regional access and connectivity but also contribute to the creation of employment opportunities during the construction phase and beyond.

Residents and public representatives have welcomed the announcements, expressing optimism about the positive impact these projects will have on the region’s development and quality of life.

With the completion of these projects, Jharkhand is poised to benefit from enhanced mobility, better integration with neighbouring states, and a stronger framework for economic growth and development in the coming years.
