IAS Richa Prakash Choudhary

The Government of India has approved the appointment of Richa Prakash Choudhary, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 2014 Chhattisgarh cadre, as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Commerce under the Central Staffing Scheme. The official order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and has been communicated to the Chhattisgarh government for necessary action.

Choudhary’s appointment has been sanctioned for a tenure of four years from the date she assumes charge of her new role. However, as per the order, the tenure may be subject to revision or early termination based on further directives. The Chhattisgarh government has been requested to relieve her from her current responsibilities at the earliest, enabling her to take up the central assignment without delay.

By the guidelines outlined in the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) directives, Choudhary is required to assume her new role within three weeks from the date of issuance of the appointment order. Failure to comply with this directive may lead to the initiation of debarment proceedings under the Central Staffing Scheme, which could affect future central deputation opportunities.

Before this appointment, Richa Prakash Choudhary held key administrative positions in Chhattisgarh. She served as the Collector of the Janjgir district before being transferred to Durg. During her tenure in these roles, she was known for her proactive governance and development initiatives.

Her selection for central deputation is seen as a recognition of her capabilities and contributions to public administration. It also underscores the growing representation of Chhattisgarh-cadre officers in key positions at the Centre.

Notably, Choudhary is the second IAS officer from Chhattisgarh in recent times to be assigned to a central government role. Before her, Dhamtari Collector Namrata Gandhi was also posted at the Centre. The trend of experienced officers from the state receiving central appointments highlights their growing prominence in national administrative frameworks.

With Choudhary moving to Delhi for her new assignment, the Chhattisgarh government is expected to appoint a new officer to oversee the administration in Durg. Given the ongoing governance responsibilities, including the recently conducted panchayat elections, her departure may lead to administrative reshuffling in the state.

The appointment order has been officially communicated to the concerned authorities, including the Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh, the Secretary of the Department of Commerce, and other relevant officials. The Department of Personnel and Training has also requested the Department of Commerce to issue a formal notification confirming her appointment.
