
Senior IAS officer Alka Tiwari has officially taken charge as Jharkhand’s third woman Chief Secretary, marking a significant milestone in the state’s administration. In a high-level meeting, she proposed that damages caused by storms and heatwaves be recognized as a national disaster, stressing the need for comprehensive relief measures.
A 1988-batch IAS officer from Uttar Pradesh, Tiwari has built a distinguished career known for her sharp administrative acumen. She has served as District Collector of Lohardaga and Gumla and has held key positions in the Forest, Environment, and Commerce Departments, playing a pivotal role in policy-making and governance reforms.
Tiwari’s academic credentials are equally remarkable. A Gold Medalist from Meerut University, she pursued post-graduation in Psychology and later earned an MSc from Manchester University, UK, receiving another Gold Medal for her expertise in management and development projects. Additionally, she holds a law degree from Ranchi University and has undertaken short-term programs at Harvard and Duke University.

Tiwari has been instrumental in reforming India’s higher education regulatory framework and driving administrative improvements across Jharkhand. Her leadership is expected to bring progressive governance and impactful policy changes.
