
IAS officer Vijay Kiran Anand has been entrusted with the monumental responsibility of overseeing the Maha Kumbh 2025, a historic spiritual gathering held on the sacred banks of the Sangam in Prayagraj. Known for his dedication and leadership, Anand is an IAS officer from the 2009 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre and a Chartered Accountant by qualification. His appointment as the Chief Officer for Maha Kumbh 2025 reflects his extensive administrative experience and prior successes in managing large-scale events.
Born in Bengaluru, Anand’s career began with his posting as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Baghpat, followed by a two-year tenure as Chief Development Officer in Barabanki district. Over the years, he has held significant positions as District Collector in districts such as Mainpuri, Unnao, Firozabad, Varanasi, and Shahjahanpur. His leadership in managing the Magh Mela in 2017 and the Ardh Kumbh Mela in 2019 further established his reputation for excellence in event organization.
In recognition of his contributions to governance, Anand received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2020. On Civil Services Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured him with a memento and citation, further cementing his stature as a distinguished officer.

Maha Kumbh 2025: A Spiritual Milestone

The Maha Kumbh officially commenced on January 13, 2025, and will continue until February 26, drawing millions of devotees from across India and the globe. The event marks a significant spiritual milestone, as Maha Kumbh occurs once every 144 years, following 12 cycles of the 12-year Purna Kumbh. For many, participating in the holy dip at the Sangam, where the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati converge, is considered a rare and life-changing opportunity.

On the occasion of the first Amrit Snan, held on Tuesday, an estimated 3.5 crore devotees, including saints, seers, and sadhus, immersed themselves in the sacred waters. Among the first to take the Amrit Snan were saints from Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani and Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara, chanting “Har Har Mahadev” as they performed the ritual.
Mahamandaleshwar Chetan Giri Ji Maharaj of Mahanirvani Akhara expressed the profound spiritual significance of the event, noting that “only the most fortunate individuals” have the opportunity to witness and participate in a Maha Kumbh during their lifetime.
