Hydrogen

The Government of Kerala has taken a significant step towards sustainable energy with the sanction to register a not-for-profit company, Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster – Kerala (HVIC-Kerala), under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013. Led by the Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT), this initiative aims to implement green hydrogen projects across the state in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.

The Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster is poised to develop localised hydrogen ecosystems, marking a pivotal transition for Kerala’s energy landscape. With an estimated project cost of ₹133 crore, HVIC-Kerala will create new economic opportunities while addressing environmental challenges in the energy sector.

The initiative builds on Kerala’s active participation in the DST’s call for Hydrogen Valley proposals. Out of 70 initial proposals, ANERT’s project was among the four recommended for financial support by the DST Expert Panel Committee. This project is set to receive DST funding, contingent on the establishment of a dedicated Section 8 company to oversee implementation and management.

The HVIC-Kerala board will feature key stakeholders, including representatives from ANERT, DST, the state government, and industry partners. A detailed structure, timeline, and milestones for the initiative have been outlined, emphasizing its transformative potential in advancing green hydrogen technology and governance.

This move reaffirms Kerala’s commitment to innovation in sustainable energy and positions the state as a leader in the green hydrogen revolution.
