In an effort to enhance bilateral relations, Dr Jitendra Singh, India’s Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, held a meeting with Israel’s Industry & Economy Minister, Nir Barkat, during his visit to India. The two leaders discussed potential collaborations in cutting-edge fields like space and quantum technologies, along with opportunities in agriculture and healthcare.

During their discussions, Dr Jitendra Singh highlighted the National Quantum Mission, a pivotal initiative in India’s technological development. He extended an invitation to Israeli startups, renowned for their expertise in quantum computing, to partner with Indian institutions in co-developing quantum technologies. Emphasizing the complementary strengths of both nations, DrDringh noted that India’s large market and workforce, combined with Israel’s innovative capabilities, could lead to significant advancements in this domain.


The National Quantum Mission is aimed at transforming sectors like communication, cryptography, and computing, with Israeli expertise playing a critical role in advancing these technologies. Dr Singh also discussed the growth of India’s space sector, particularly the rise of private space startups, thanks to supportive government policies. He pointed out the potential for Israeli startups to collaborate with their Indian counterparts, benefiting from India’s cost-effective production and large talent pool.

Furthermore, the ministers explored the possibility of applying India’s unique Public-Private Partnership plus Proactive Policy Push (PPP+PPP) model to scale joint ventures in key technological areas. Dr Singh also referred to the Anusandhan National Research Mission (NRM), a program designed to integrate research across disciplines, and suggested leveraging Israel’s advanced research capabilities to tackle global challenges together.


The talks also touched on opportunities in biotechnology, with both leaders agreeing on the importance of collaboration in agriculture, healthcare, and sustainable development. Dr. Singh welcomed Israeli expertise in these areas, noting the rapid growth of India’s bio-economy sector.

In addition, the meeting covered strategic sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT). Dr. Singh encouraged Israeli companies to partner with India in these critical fields, especially given India’s advancements in mobile manufacturing and 5G technology.

Minister Barkat expressed his gratitude for India’s support and outlined Israel’s economic model, which focuses on six key export-driven clusters, including advanced manufacturing and high-tech industries. He shared Israel’s approach of creating specialized infrastructure to support startups, highlighting the potential for such a model to benefit India.

The two leaders also discussed the possibility of joint pilot projects in AI and quantum technologies, emphasizing the benefits of combining Israel’s innovation with India’s large-scale market and talent pool. Both agreed on the importance of collaborative efforts in the agriculture and marine sectors, with plans to establish a dedicated working group to explore further opportunities for innovation.

Concluding the meeting, Dr Singh reiterated the shared goals of India and Israel to foster knowledge-based economies and lead in global innovation. He stressed that by working together in fields like space, quantum computing, and biotechnology, both nations could address global challenges and drive progress for a better future.
