
The Bihar government, under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, has approved the promotion of 36 IPS officers, marking a major administrative move as the New Year approaches. According to a notification from the Home Department issued Monday evening, officers from the 2007, 2010, and 2012 batches, including several district Superintendents of Police (SPs), have been elevated to higher ranks.
Notable among the promoted officers are Sudhir Kumar Porika, Chandan Kumar Kushwaha, Har Kishore Rai, Satya Prakash, Ashish Bharti, Rakesh Kumar, Rajendra Kumar Bhill, and Swapna Meshram. From the 2007 batch, Daljit Singh, Vivek Kumar, and Ranjit Kumar Mishra have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General (IG). Vivek Kumar’s promotion is conditional on completing the fourth phase of mid-career training.
Ganesh Kumar, a 2020 batch IPS officer currently on central deputation, has been granted a proforma promotion to the rank of Additional Director General (ADG), filling a vacancy created by the promotion of Jitendra Singh Gangwar to Director General (DG).

In a significant reshuffle, eight officers have been promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG). These include Sudhir Kumar Porika and Chandan Kumar Kushwaha of the 2010 batch, with their promotions taking immediate effect. Officers from the 2011 batch, including Har Kishore Rai, Satya Prakash, and Ashish Bharti, will be promoted to DIG effective January 1, 2025.

Moreover, several officers, including Chandan Kumar Kushwaha, Anand Kumar, and Kumar Ashish, have been granted senior pay scales in recognition of their service. This large-scale promotion drive is expected to boost morale and reinforce the state government’s commitment to acknowledging the efforts of its law enforcement officers.
