Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Shri Manohar Lal, inaugurated the National Workshop on Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) in New Delhi on November 18, 2024. The event, organized in collaboration with the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO), drew participation from senior ministry officials, HUDCO leadership, and representatives from States and Union Territories (UTs).

Addressing the gathering, Shri Manohar Lal emphasized the significance of housing in improving lives. He commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Housing for All” and highlighted the transformative impact of PMAY-U. He called for effective governance to ensure the scheme’s benefits reach every eligible family, creating an estimated 3 crore employment opportunities.

The Minister praised States and UTs for their pivotal role in implementing PMAY-U and urged continued efforts for PMAY-U 2.0. He noted the introduction of Affordable Rental Housing, which aims to provide cost-effective accommodation for workers and women, ensuring financial constraints do not prevent dignified living.

The workshop focused on PMAY-U 2.0‘s strategies, attended by over 250 stakeholders. It aimed to disseminate the scheme’s approach and promote knowledge exchange. Officials discussed best practices, policy frameworks, land acquisition models, and the use of innovative construction technologies to create sustainable and inclusive urban housing.


HUDCO Chairman Shri Sanjay Kulshrestha reaffirmed HUDCO’s commitment to facilitating home loans and supporting PMAY-U 2.0. The event also featured four breakout sessions, where participants shared insights on affordable housing policies, rental housing models, and innovative construction techniques.

Shri Kuldip Narayan, Joint Secretary and Mission Director for Housing for All, provided an overview of PMAY-U’s achievements, including the construction of 90 lakh houses, and outlined the way forward for PMAY-U 2.0. He stressed the importance of setting benchmarks to ensure quality of life for beneficiaries and establishing an efficient housing ecosystem.
A new unified web portal for PMAY-U 2.0 was introduced, offering stakeholders a streamlined platform for applications, monitoring, and data exchange. The event marked a significant step toward fulfilling the government’s vision of providing secure and dignified housing for urban families, empowering them to improve their quality of life.

PMAY-U 2.0, approved in August 2024 and launched in September, aims to provide pucca houses to 1 crore urban families. It focuses on inclusive urban development, addressing the needs of underprivileged sections, and ensuring the housing requirements of diverse population groups. The scheme includes four verticals: Beneficiary-Led Construction, Affordable Housing in Partnership, Affordable Rental Housing, and the Interest Subsidy Scheme.
