In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening India’s growing artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem, Google has officially announced the launch of the Google for Startups AI Academy India 2024. This program, supported by the MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) Startup Hub, underscores Google’s commitment to empowering India’s AI-driven startup landscape. This initiative comes at a pivotal moment when India is gaining global recognition for its advancements in AI, fueled by a highly skilled technical workforce and an increasingly dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem.
A recent NASSCOM report has shed light on the rapid growth of India’s generative AI landscape, revealing a remarkable 3.6-fold increase in the number of startups since 2023. These developments span a broad spectrum, from the creation of foundational AI models to the deployment of transformative AI applications and services, which have the potential to redefine multiple industries.
To catalyze this growth, Google has joined forces with the MeitY Startup Hub, aiming to equip 10,000 Indian startups with the necessary resources to leverage AI technology effectively. This collaboration aligns with the IndiaAI Mission, a national initiative dedicated to unlocking the potential of AI for societal advancement. The newly launched Google for Startups AI Academy India 2024 will operate in collaboration with prominent accelerators, incubators, and key industry partners to extend specialized support to startups across the nation.

The Google for Startups AI Academy India 2024 will be hosted in seven cities from November to December 2024. The cities involved will partner with prestigious institutions and organizations, including Kerala Startup Mission, T-Hub & MATH, IHFC-IIT Delhi, NSRCEL IIM Bangalore, SINE IIT Bombay, IIT Madras Incubation Cell, and IIMA Ventures. Additionally, the program will align strategically with NASSCOM AI and People+AI to enhance its effectiveness.

The academy will feature a structured three-day boot camp, explicitly designed to support early-stage startups that are leveraging AI to address pressing challenges across critical sectors such as healthcare, climate, agriculture, education, financial inclusion, cybersecurity, and public infrastructure (including digital public infrastructure). The primary objective is to foster the creation of human-centric AI solutions that can drive meaningful societal impact.

Startups that are eligible to participate should have developed a minimum viable product and must be at a funding stage of up to Pre-Series A. The program offers a comprehensive support ecosystem, including:
- Expert-Led Workshops and Training: Participants will benefit from tailored workshops that cover essential topics, such as People + AI Research (PAIR), responsible AI practices, the latest generative AI technologies, AI-driven marketing strategies, and effective storytelling techniques.
- Personalized One-on-One Mentoring: The program will provide access to office hours with AI experts, enabling startups to receive personalized guidance and solutions to address specific challenges they encounter.
- Google Product Credits and Infrastructure Support: Eligible startups will have the opportunity to receive up to $350,000 in cloud credits, empowering them to develop and scale robust AI solutions.
- Comprehensive Support and Networking Opportunities: The program will grant startups access to Google’s extensive network of experts, alongside opportunities to participate in showcases and connect with industry mentors, fellow entrepreneurs, investors, and key stakeholders in the ecosystem. Startups may also be considered for additional partner-led startup programs and funding opportunities.
