The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has initiated a significant reshuffle in the Union Secretariat, announcing key appointments across various departments.

Subrata Gupta, a 1990-batch IAS officer from the West Bengal cadre, has been appointed as Secretary of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, replacing Anita Praveen upon her superannuation on November 30.

S Gopalakrishnan, a 1991-batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre and current Director General of the National Productivity Council (NPC), has been appointed as Chairman of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), replacing Rakesh Ranjan, who took voluntary retirement on October 31.

Puneet Kumar Goel, the current Chief Secretary of Goa and a 1991-batch AGMUT cadre officer, has been appointed as the Secretary of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST).


V Umashankar, a 1993-batch Haryana cadre IAS officer, has been appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, succeeding Anurag Jain.

Tanmay Kumar, a 1993-batch Rajasthan cadre IAS officer and Special Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), has been promoted to the same ministry’s top post, replacing Leena Nandan upon her retirement on December 31.

Vikram Dev Dutt, a 1993-batch AGMUT cadre officer, has been appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Coal. He was previously serving as Director General of Civil Aviation.

Surendra Kumar Bagde, a 1993-batch Maharashtra cadre officer, has been appointed Director General of the National Centre for Good Governance in the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances. He was earlier Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.

Neerja Sekhar, a 1993-batch Haryana cadre IAS officer and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has been promoted in-situ as Special Secretary.
