New Highway

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced the approval of 50 National Highway projects spanning a total length of 1,026 kilometres in Manipur. Notably, 44 of these projects, covering 902 kilometres, are located in the hilly regions of the state.

So far, eight projects, totalling 125 kilometres, have been successfully completed in these hill areas. The remaining 36 projects, estimated to cost around ₹12,000 crore, are currently under development and aim to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in these challenging terrains.

For the upcoming Annual Plan 2024-25, the Ministry has allocated funds for two additional National Highway projects, amounting to ₹1,350 crores for a combined length of 90 kilometres, also situated in the hilly regions.

Furthermore, under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), the Ministry has approved a list of prioritized work on state roads as submitted by the Manipur State Government. From a total of 111 works proposed, the Ministry has given the green light to 57 projects based on their priority, with a Bank of Specifications (BoS) ratio of 9.81, significantly higher than the permissible ratio of 4 for hilly states.

This comprehensive investment in road infrastructure is expected to facilitate improved transportation and connectivity across Manipur, particularly in its hill areas, supporting economic growth and development in the region.
