Bihar’s Urban Development and Housing Minister, Nitin Nabin, recently announced the successful completion of 74 projects under the state’s Smart City Mission, with the remaining projects expected to be finished within five months. In a media briefing in Patna, Nabin shared that out of the total 129 projects, 70% of the remaining 55 have also reached completion.
A key highlight of this mission is the ambitious Patna Metro project. Nabin focused on the 6.5 km priority corridor, which includes five stations starting from Patliputra Bus Terminal and extending to Malahi Pakadi, passing through Zero Mile, Bhutnath, and Khemnichak. The rapid construction of this corridor marks a major step forward in enhancing the city’s infrastructure, he said.
Providing further details, Nabin elaborated on the Patna Metro Rail Project, which spans a total distance of 32.5 km and includes 25 stations. These stations consist of 12 elevated, 12 underground, and one Grade Transit station. The estimated cost of the entire project is ₹13,365.77 crore. Two main corridors are planned: the first, covering 17.93 km, will run from Danapur Cantt to Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg near Bailey Road, while the second, spanning 14.57 km, will connect Patna Railway Station to Patliputra Bus Stand. So far, the Bihar government has contributed ₹4,296 crore to the project. Nabin emphasized that the government is striving to complete the 6.5 km corridor before the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, underscoring the importance of the metro project, which is one of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s top priorities.

Nabin also mentioned the state’s broader metro expansion plans, with similar projects proposed in other major cities like Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, and Gaya, all part of Bihar’s urban development efforts.

Additionally, Nabin spoke about the ongoing construction of a subway linking Bihar Museum and Patna Museum, with a budget of ₹542 crore, out of which ₹75 crore has already been allocated to the construction company. He also highlighted the selection of Patna, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, and Bihar Sharif for development under the Smart City Mission, with projects such as road over bridges, multi-level car parking, sewage treatment plants, and riverfront developments designed to revitalize urban infrastructure in these areas.
