Solar PV Capacity

The Ministry of Renewable Energy announced that India’s solar PV module manufacturing capacity has skyrocketed from 2.3 GW to 67 GW over the past decade, driven by initiatives under the “Make In India” program. Currently, 48 GW of fully or partially integrated solar PV manufacturing projects are underway, supported by the Solar PLI scheme.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi emphasised the government’s commitment to making India a global leader in clean energy, stating, “India’s renewable energy sector has contributed immensely to #10YearsOfMakeInIndia. We are providing comprehensive support, from PLI to VGF, to bolster domestic industries.”

The ministry highlighted the government’s focus on incentivising domestic manufacturing in the renewable energy sector, particularly solar PV modules, cells, and components like ingots and wafers. The Rs. 24,000 crore PLI Scheme, along with policies like basic customs duties and domestic content requirements, underlines the government’s aim to make India self-reliant in solar PV manufacturing.
