Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Vadhvan Port project, valued at approximately ₹76,000 crore, in Palghar, Maharashtra, on Friday, August 30. He also addressed the Global Fintech Fest 2024 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai at 11 am. Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various development projects at the CIDCO ground in Palghar.

Vadhvan Port Highlights:

  • Located near Dahanu town in Palghar district, Vadhvan Port is set to become one of India’s largest deep-water ports, offering direct connectivity to international shipping routes.
  • The port is designed to establish a world-class maritime gateway, boosting India’s trade and economic growth by accommodating large container vessels with deeper drafts and ultra-large cargo ships.
  • Featuring deep berths, efficient cargo handling facilities, and modern port management systems, Vadhvan Port will enhance India’s maritime connectivity and solidify its position as a global trade hub.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 218 fisheries projects worth around ₹1,560 crore, which are expected to generate over five lakh employment opportunities in the fisheries sector. He launched the National Roll Out of the Vessel Communication and Support system, developed by ISRO, at a cost of around ₹360 crore, which aims to establish two-way communication for fishermen at sea.

In addition, he inaugurated other initiatives, including the development of fishing harbours and integrated aquaparks, to be implemented across multiple states. He laid the foundation stone for significant fishery infrastructure projects, including the development, upgradation, and modernisation of fishing harbours, fish landing centres, and the construction of fish markets.
