In a significant move towards bolstering indigenous capabilities in shipbuilding, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 7, 2024, in New Delhi. The agreement aims to facilitate the supply of native marine grade steel, emphasizing the imperative of domestic content in maritime construction.
Signed by Deputy Director General (Materiel & Maintenance) of ICG, IG HK Sharma, and Chief Marketing Officer of JSP, SK Pradhan, the MoU underscores the synergy between government agencies and private enterprises in addressing strategic security challenges. It outlines specific benefits, including assured quality, grades, and dimensions, along with designated steel plants committed to manufacturing the required product.
The partnership not only underscores the commitment to indigenization but also ensures a timely supply of marine-grade steel to meet the ICG’s operational needs. The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of senior officers from the Indian Coast Guard, further highlighting the significance of this collaboration in strengthening national maritime capabilities.
