Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Friday launched ‘ETHANOL 100,’ a cutting-edge automotive fuel. The launch ceremony took place at the Indian Oil Retail Outlet, Irwin Road Service Station, signalling an important move in the country’s energy landscape.

Starting from today, customers can avail ETHANOL 100 at select 183 retail outlets across five states – Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, and Tamil Nadu. This move underscores the government’s commitment to promoting cleaner energy alternatives and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

ETHANOL 100, touted as a cleaner and greener substitute for gasoline, boasts significantly lower emissions of greenhouse gases and pollutants. This attribute aligns with efforts to combat climate change and enhance air quality across communities. Moreover, with its high-octane rating ranging between 100-105, ETHANOL 100 promises enhanced efficiency and power output, particularly for high-performance engines. Its versatility extends to various vehicle types, including flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs), showcasing its potential as a mainstream fuel option.

Accompanying Minister Puri at the launch were esteemed dignitaries including Petroleum Secretary Pankaj Jain, Chairman of Indian Oil Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, senior officials from the Petroleum Ministry, and functional Directors of Indian Oil.

Minister Puri said the introduction of ETHANOL 100 aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of transitioning from ‘Annadatas’ to ‘Urjadatas.’ He emphasised the fuel’s transformative potential in revolutionising the transportation sector while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to reducing import dependency and bolstering the agriculture sector, Minister Puri noted significant progress in ethanol blending initiatives. Since the Prime Minister’s announcement regarding E20 (20 percent ethanol blended fuel) in 2023, the availability of E20 has surged to 12,000 outlets within a year. With the launch of ETHANOL 100 at 183 Indian Oil outlets, the country edges closer to achieving the target of 20% ethanol blending by 2025-26.
