In a significant development, Mr. K Kailashnathan, a distinguished retired IAS officer of the 1979 Gujarat cadre, has been granted a six-month extension as the Chief Principal Secretary to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. This marks his 11th extension in this crucial role, showcasing his enduring influence and contribution to the administrative landscape.

Known for his stalwart service in the Indian Administrative Service, K Kailashnathan has been a trusted official to four Chief Ministers, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Despite retiring in 2013, Mr. Kailashnathan’s unwavering dedication has kept him actively involved in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Having retired from the post of Additional Chief Secretary in Gujarat in 2013 after an impressive 33-year tenure, Mr. Kailashnathan was subsequently appointed as the Chief Principal Secretary, a position specially created for him. Over the past decade, he has continued to handle this responsibility with diligence, earning the trust of Chief Ministers Anandiben Patel, Vijay Rupani, and the current Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel.

A trusted confidant of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for over two decades, Mr. Kailashnathan, along with Dr. PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India, holds a prominent position in the ranks of bureaucrats relied upon by the Prime Minister.

Currently overseeing the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram redevelopment as the Chairman of the Executive Council of the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram Memorial Trust (SGAMT), Mr. Kailashnathan remains deeply involved in politically sensitive and ambitious projects.

With an illustrious career that began in 1981 as an Assistant Collector, Mr. Kailashnathan has served in various key positions, including Collector of Surendra Nagar and Surat, Commissioner of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, and Chairman of the Steering Committee of the renowned BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) Project.
