Namo Bharat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 20th October officially launched ‘Namo Bharat,’ India’s maiden semi-high-speed regional rail service in Uttar Pradesh. This inauguration marked a significant milestone in the development of the Regional Rapid Train Service (RRTS), a transformative regional initiative designed to enhance intercity commuting.

Prime Minister Modi personally flagged off the ‘Namo Bharat’ train, connecting the stations of Sahibabad and Duhai Depot in Uttar Pradesh, demonstrating the commitment to advancing urban connectivity in the region.

This momentous launch inaugurates the RRTS, promising high-speed trains that prioritize passenger comfort and convenience. Features include overhead storage, Wi-Fi connectivity, and charging options at every seat, with a premium-class car boasting spacious seating, ample legroom, and coat hangers, as per a press release.

Safety is paramount, with the inclusion of CCTV cameras, an emergency door-opening mechanism, and a button to facilitate communication with the train operator.

Prime Minister Modi, during the event, underlined the comprehensive scope of the RRTS project. In its first phase, ‘Namo Bharat’ trains will establish crucial links between various regions, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. The full 82-km stretch between Delhi and Meerut is expected to be completed within the next 1-1.5 years, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing connectivity.

Notably, the rail service’s name was changed from ‘RapidX’ to ‘NaMo Bharat’ in a recent announcement, reflecting its national significance.

Today, the 17-km priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor opens to passengers, just one day after its inauguration. This section, spanning from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, includes five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot.

The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor represents a monumental development initiative, with a total project cost exceeding ₹30,000 crore. It is set to connect Delhi to Meerut in less than an hour, traversing key urban centers like Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar, significantly enhancing regional transportation and connectivity.
