Manu Kumar Srivastava appointed as Chief Secretary of Maharashtra

The Government of Maharashtra appointed Manu Kumar Srivastava as the Chief Secretary of the state. The 1986-Batch IAS officer replaces Debashish Chakrabarty, the incumbent CS who superannuated on Monday, February 28, after a three-month stint.

Ahead of Debashish Chakrabarty taking over the charge of Chief Secretary from SJ Kunte, Srivastava was to be appointed at the post on November 30, 2021. However, the state government decided to assign the post to Chakrabarty. At present, Srivastava is the senior-most officer in Maharashtra and likely to hold the post of CS for a year’s tenure before he superannuates on April 30, 2023.

The other officers considered for the CS post were Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) (Finance) Manoj Saunik and ACS (General Administration Department) Sujata Saunik both from of 1987 batch.

In his early years, Srivastava has worked in various portfolios including Collector of Kolhapur and Additional Commissioner (Projects) in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. He has also led lead various departments including urban development, revenue, and home. Prior to taking over as CS, He was serving as ACS of the Home . However, after the latest orders, Anand Limaye, ACS (Appeals & Security) has been assigned the additional charge of the Home department.
