With the objective to streamline mobility and provide a push to major economic programmes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced PM ‘Gati Shakti National Master Plan’. The Master Plan is a Rs 100 lakh crore worth project that aims to support infrastructure development work by government ministries and departments and improve multi-modal connectivity.

During the launch of the Gati Shakti National Master Plan at Pragati Maidan, Delhi, PM Modi said that the country has so far been lacking a holistic plan of infrastructure projects with each department and ministry working independently in silos.

Announcing the comprehensive approach of the BJP-led government, PM Modi took to Twitter saying, “Lack of political will adversely impacted infrastructure creation. We are adopting a whole of the government approach to remove silos and create a correct atmosphere for economic transformation.”

The Prime Minister is of the view that the ‘Gati Shakti National Master Plan’ will cut down the logistics cost in the coming four to five years which is currently around 13 per cent of the GDP. The move will enhance the competitiveness of the industries and economy.

The Gati Shakti National Master Plan also focuses on the incorporation of infrastructure schemes such as Bharatmala, Sagarmala, regional air connectivity scheme, development of inland waterways, sea as well as land ports and look forward to holistic development. It will also cover economic zones such as textile, fishing, pharmaceutical clusters, defence corridors, electronic parks, industrial corridors, agricultural zones for enhancing connectivity and competitiveness in businesses.

The MasterPlan will further fast-track key infrastructure projects that faced difficulties in fetching the multiplicity of approval and regulatory clearances. The Centre, under the Master Plan, is heading to use geospatial information technology with real-time monitoring of large scale infrastructure projects. This will enable various ministries and departments to visualise, review and monitor the progress of cross-sectoral projects.
