In another historic move by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government of India, a separate ‘Ministry of Co-operation’ has been created for realizing the vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’. The new ministry will be responsible for providing a separate administrative, legal and policy framework to empower the cooperative movement in the country.
The move will aid in strengthening Co-operatives as a true people based movement reaching upto the grassroots levels. Considering India, a Co-operative based economic development model has been successful wherein each member works with a spirit of responsibility.
The Ministry will focus on streamlining processes for ‘Ease of doing business’ for co-operatives and enable development of Multi-State Co-operatives (MSCS).
Through the move, the Centre has shown its deep commitment to community based developmental partnership. Also, the creation of a separate Ministry for Co-operation also fulfils the budget announcement made by the Finance Minister.
