UPPCL to deploy SHGs for doorstep recovery of bill payments

Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL)

In a bid to implement doorstep payment of electricity bills, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has signed an agreement with DC National Rural Livelihood Mission in all Districts of UP to allow Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to collect bill payments from the citizens at their doorsteps.

The move is expected to aid the consumers to pay their bills at their doorstep without actually reaching out to the UPPCL office. Moreover, it will enable SHGs to create a prepaid wallet with UPPCL by depositing money. Once SHGs become agents they will be able to receive bill payments on behalf of UPPCL and give the receipts accordingly. Hence, the SHGs were asked to immediately get in touch with DC NRLM for queries if any, and begin the new execution of the new plan.

As per the UPPCL’s Chairman’s tweet, if SHGs collect 100 bills in a month they will be able to earn a minimum of Rs 2000 (100×20) and a maximum of Rs 49,999 depending on bill amount collected per month. For a bill of  Rs 2000 SHG’s will be paid Rs 20 and if the bill reaches 49,999, the SHGs will be paid one percent of the amount. This is UPPCL’s way to empower women and help them generate extra income.
