Hemant Sorean, Chief Minister, Jharkhand urged the Prime Minister to scale up the wages and man-days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme by 50 per cent as it is the main thrust of the rural economy with migrant workers back in the state.
The CM, also sought relaxation in the guidelines of (MGNREGA) as per the state’s need. The discussions took place during a video conference, on May 11, wherein the PM connected with CMs of different states. Besides this, Soren also asked the PM to speed up ferrying of migrant workers to their homes. Moreover, he also requested the Centre for early clearance of the state’s GST share and permit the collection of revenue from some resources at the state level.
While showing gratitude towards Centre’s decision of running ‘Shramik Special Trains’, the CM said, “But only 21-22 trains have so far come with only 50,000 to 55,000 people returning. Nearly seven lakh people from the state are residing in different parts of the country. Life and livelihood should be given priority.”
