In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, Modi-led Government of India announced a major decision considering the distribution of ration to the people. The Prime Minister, during a cabinet meeting held today, decided to distribute food grains at a cheaper rates to nearly 80 crore people across the country.
Prakash Javadekar, Union Minster for Environment Forest and Climate Change said in a press conference hels post the cabinet meeting that 80 crore people across the country will be provided ration at a cheaper rates. Detailing about the prices he said, the Government will be providing ration at Rs 7 kg per person ration every month.
The Minister said that the government has decided to provide wheat at Rs 2 per kg which is worth Rs 27 per kg and rice at Rs 3 per kg which is worth Rs 37 per kg. A total amount of Rs 1 lakh 80 thousand crore are being spent for the cause. The amount will be given in advance to the states for the coming three months.
Further, the Minister advised people to maintain social distancing to prevent further spread of coronavirus. The Minister also asked people not to pay attention to rumours and to visit the Ministry of Health’s website to get the information on the coronavirus situation.
Talking about the disease, Prakash Javadekar said that there are only three ways to fight coronavirus. Firstly, to stay at home; secondly wash hands before doing any work; and finally wash hands repeatedly. Most importantly follow the norm of social distancing to avoid spread of the disease, Javadekar added.
