Kodela Siva Prasad Rao, former Andhra Pradesh assembly Speaker has committed suicide today at his Hyderabad residence.
He was taken to Basavatarakam Hospital, where doctors confirmed that he was brought dead.
Aged 72, Rao was one of the senior-most leaders of the opposition Telugu Desam Party in the state.
His demise has been condoled by several politicians
Rao became Speaker in 2014 after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to create Telangana. He was elected MLA for six times, of which he won from Narsaraopet five times and Sattenapalli in 2014.
Rao has also served as the Home Minister and the Panchayat Raj Minister.
He had joined the TDP in 1983. He is survived by two sons and a daughter. Born in a family of farmers, he went on to become a doctor after graduating from Guntur Medical College.
