Sanket S Bhondve, a 2007-Batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh Cadre has been appointed as Private Secretary to Nitin Gadkari, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
Bhondve was appointed as Deputy Secretary in Ministry for Road Transport and Highways under the Central Staffing Scheme in April 2018 and was to serve for a period of four years. His tenure had to be curtailed with his latest appointment
Previously, as Collector of Ujjain district, Bhondve received a national award in 2017 from President Ram Nath Kovind for initiatives taken for senior citizens of Ujjain.
He regularised pensions of more than 39,000 elderly people at Panchayat level besides giving support to another 2150 under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana during his short tenure. He also started several daycare centres for senior citizens in the rural areas of the district.
Prior to that, as Collector of Hoshangabad district, Bhondve was honoured with the National Award for Excellent Work in the field of rehabilitation and upliftment of differently-abled people in 2015.
The late former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the award to him on behalf of Prime Minister at the time. Bhondve introduced several welfare programmes and activities in Hoshangabad for the differently-abled people and it yielded encouraging results for which the district was shortlisted in the category of ‘best districts’ by the Central government.
Obstruction-free ramps in all government offices in the district were also one of his achievements as Collector of Hoshangabad district.
